No Protests for This Pipeline
Indigenous people aren't protesting this pipeline. They're investing.
What if US states and Native tribes across the Southwestern US had a place to store surplus water in years of heavy rainfall without fear of evaporation — and an ample reserve to tap into during severe droughts?
This question is becoming more and more pressing in today’s increasingly uncertain climate.
Cadiz, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDZI) might just have an answer.
Cadiz is building the Southwest's largest water pipeline. It aims to leverage its 45,000 acres of land in California and 2.5 million acre-feet of water supply to increase clean water access where it is needed the most.
The word “pipeline” might trigger unpleasant flashbacks to controversial projects like the Keystone XL Pipeline.
But indigenous people aren’t protesting Cadiz. They’re investing.
Last month, the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians signed a Letter of Intent to invest up to $50 million in the Cadiz’s groundwater banking project in the Mojave Desert. That would be the first major investment by a Native American Tribe in large-scale water infrastructure off tribal lands in US history.
Oh, and did we mention Cadiz plans to repurpose 180 miles of pipeline assets from the failed Keystone project? Ah, the irony.
A cosign — and financial backing — from the very communities it aims to support can’t hurt Cadiz’s chances of clearing key regulatory hurdles in California. And with construction set to begin in 2025 and initial water delivery slated for 2026, next year could be a big one for Cadiz.
But the potential appeal of this company goes far beyond the West Coast. Cadiz has another project in the pipeline (pun very much intended) that could possibly benefit directly from the next Trump administration.
Stay tuned — we’ll discuss that in more detail later this week.

(Okay, that was the last one, I swear.)
