TOMORROWāS TRADE IDEA, TODAY

Firmās Footing
Goldmanās Guidance
Many investors are pretty concerned about the economy right now ā and theyāre not alone. In a recent research note, one of Americaās foremost investment banks echoed their concerns.
Goldman Sachs $GS ( ā¼ 0.18% ) lowered its year-end target for the S&P 500 by 300 points to 6,200. It added that the S&P 500 declined by a median 24% from peak to valley during recessions, signaling the bank believes a proper downturn is possible, if not imminent.
Thereās a silver lining though. The firm also provided a list of āstable growthā stocks it thinks may weather a potential recession. Here are a few of the highlights.
Tech Toughness
The tech sector might not be synonymous with āstable growthā in most investorsā minds. But Goldman thinks Google-parent Alphabet $GOOGL ( ā² 1.52% ) is one of the rare big tech blue-chips with the ability to grow steadily, even in a downturn.
Alphabet shares are down 14% YTD, but Goldman argues that could change if its earnings confirm its bullish trajectory. The firm currently projects Alphabetās EPS and sales to each rise 11% this year.
Most analysts share this optimistic view. Their average price target of around $215 suggests around 32% upside from Alphabetās closing price today.
Food Firmness
Beyond tech, Goldman sees stability in several food and drink giants: Dominoās Pizza $DPZ ( ā² 0.47% ) and PepsiCo $PEP ( ā¼ 0.24% ) .
The bank suggests that concerns like belated responses to competition and Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jrās assault on big food companies have been overblown. Both stocks have ticked up moderately in 2025, but Goldman believes the consumer staples could continue to grow at a time when other companies may shrink.
If the firm is onto something, investors might not need to look beyond these mainstays to find their footing.
