TOMORROW’S TRADE IDEA, TODAY

Boomer Or Bust

It Takes a Village

In 2022, there were 58 million senior citizens. By 2030, that number will be at 82 million, according to Bank of America $BAC ( ▼ 3.08% ) .

It takes a village to raise a child — and the same goes for extending their lifespan. For example, aging means relying more on medical devices and refrigerated medication. But beyond the health tech itself, those goods require constant power to ensure they’re readily available — and backup generators for when those power sources fail.

That’s a big part of why the bank is bullish on Generac $GNRC ( ▼ 3.44% ) . The company currently makes generators for homes. But analysts believe it could dramatically expand its scope in the coming years.

Expansion Opportunities

BoA initiated coverage of Generac at a $182 price target, representing around 34% upside from current prices.

Beyond the aging US population, the bank sees several tailwinds for Generac, including heightened weather disasters and a deteriorating electrical grid. Weather events that result in at least $1 billion in damages have doubled since the last decade, per BoA, now averaging 23 per year.

The kicker is that the states that tend to experience the most of these events and could benefit the most from Generac’s services — Florida, California, and Texas — are a market that the company has yet to truly penetrate.

Aging in Reverse

The stock is down around 12% YTD, providing a potential reduce-cost entry point. Despite the recent losses, it has gained more than 15% over the past 12 months, and BofA analyst Dimple Gosal thinks its future outlook is bright.

If Gosal is onto something, the half-century-old company might just reach its golden years at the same time many Americans enter theirs.
