Breaking news from the Mojave Desert
Good morning Everyone — Happy Monday, we hope you're having an amazing start to the holiday week. We're in your inbox bright and early to share some exciting (and breaking) news from our sponsor, Cadiz, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDZI).
As a quick reminder, Cadiz is a California water solutions company dedicated to providing access to clean, reliable and affordable water for people through a unique combination of water supply, storage, pipeline and treatment solutions.
With 45,000 acres of land in California, 2.5 million acre-feet of water supply, 220 miles of pipeline assets and the most cost-effective water treatment filtration technology in the industry, Cadiz offers a full suite of solutions to address the impacts of climate change on clean water access.
Today Cadiz and Lytton Band of Pomo Indians have signed a Letter of Intent for the Tribe to invest up to $50 million in the Company’s groundwater banking project in the Mojave Desert. The Tribe’s investment would be the first major investment by a Native American Tribe in large-scale water infrastructure off tribal lands in US history.
The groundwater bank at Cadiz is located at the base of a 2,000 square mile watershed system fed by rain and snow in the high desert New York and Providence mountains. The underground reservoir holds an estimated 30 - 40 million acre-feet of water in storage today – more water than is presently stored in Lake Mead and Lake Powell, the two largest surface reservoirs in the United States, combined.
